"I gave the 100,000 Birr I was awarded to support those affected by the drought in Tigray."

"I gave the 100,000 Birr I was awarded to support the people affected by the drought in Tigray" - Ebe Legese

It was his childhood dream to build his own plane and fly in the sky, he said.

He says that he made a desperate journey to turn his thoughts into action. After many efforts, he stated that he was able to make a helicopter that can fly for about three minutes.

Ebe said that the helicopter, which was completed in eight months, cost more than 1.5 million birr.

While it only has room for the pilot, it can fly up to four people or four tons of cargo, he said.

When the helicopter is completed and put to work:

- To extinguish accidental fires,

- It is used to prevent and scan locust swarms. People can also use it for transportation, he said.

In the aviation innovation competition held in Addis Ababa last week, he won 100,000 birr by making and presenting a helicopter.

Ebe pointed out that he gave the prize money to the people affected by the drought in Tigray.

The fact that the helicopter can be improved and used in the market and that the materials it is made of are completely available in the area has made Eben a winner.

Ebe, who stated that the Ethiopian Air Force has promised to help him with his innovation, said that he will work to come up with something better in the future.
